Habits Of Happy People

Happy people have four simple habits we can learn and master. The habits of happy people are what make them different from the rest of us. Were they born under a lucky star? Are they richer, smarter or better-looking? Do they know something the rest of us don’t? Or can we do what they do and be just as happy?

Habits Of Happy People

I’ve studied the habits of happy people and discovered that they deal with life differently than folks who let the ups and downs of life get them down…and keep them down. We can study these habits of happy people and do what they do. And, luckily, there are just a few simple habits that we can learn and master. The habits of happy people can make us just as happy as they are!

Habit # 1 – Happy People Live In The Present

What does living in the present mean? It means enjoying what is happening right now. Is it a sunny day, did you get a phone call from an old friend, did the dog do something adorable? You can enjoy that RIGHT NOW even if you lost your job, you have a cold, the credit card company keeps calling and your marriage is crumbling. Most important of all the habits of happy people is, when things are going well, they don’t make themselves unhappy by bringing the past into the present. Regret, blaming and feeling sorry for themselves for past wrongs are not part of their present. Nor do happy people live in the future. They expect to be happy now, not after they get a new job, not when the bills are paid off, not when a spouse magically becomes loving and attentive. Happy people do not “wait to live” – they live RIGHT NOW.

Habit #2 – Happy People Don’t Compare Themselves To Others

Primary in the habits of happy people is measuring their lives by their own standards. Comparison to others is a guarantee of self-torture and misery. Happy people know very well that other people’s lives may be completely miserable, no matter what their material blessings, good looks, social positions or seemingly happy families. Nor does it matter. Of course you want your friends to be as happy as you are, but you cannot feel their feelings – you can only feel your own. A happy person typically compares himself to mentors and role models, to improve the character rather than feel any kind of lack.

Habit #3 – Happy People Are Grateful

The habits of happy people include gratitude for all things, large and small.  Gratitude is the gift that keeps on giving. They remember what they have left, not anything they may have lost. It’s a platitude but true – count your blessings and you’ll be astonished how many there are. Grateful people are inevitably given more for which to be grateful!

Habit #4 – Happy People Know Pain Is Temporary

The habits of happy people keep them from seeing present circumstances as permanent.  Happy people know happiness is a state of mind and not dependent on reasons to be happy. Even in times of loss of loved ones, financial hardship and sickness, they know happiness is possible and keep that vision in mind. They never give up hope. Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.

Practice The Habits of Happy People

The habits of happy people are simple but the rewards are huge. Concentrate on the present, compare yourself only to saints, be grateful and remember that present hardships are temporary. These are simple habits of happy people that we can learn and master….and reap the benefits for a lifetime!
